Where we are
Meeting Point
The Ferratus building can be seen from the main Burgos-Madrid road (A-1) between the municipalities of Aranda de Duero and Gumiel de Izán. We're in the heart of the DO Ribera del Duero (Castilla y León) in the strip corresponding to the province of Burgos, where most of the wineries making Ribera del Duero wine are clustered. This eastern strip produces better quality tinta grapes, and better yields, than the Valladolid side on the other bank. In the town of Aranda de Duero, wine tourists have the added advantage of being able to visit an unrivalled seven kilometres of underground galleries, where it is possible to relive the winemaking history of the region since medieval times, as well as many other architectural monuments.

We are Ribera del Duero
We have the chance to make wines in our own land with this Denomination of Origin, currently the second best selling in Spain, after Rioja. The River Duero crosses the provinces of Valladolid and Burgos for 115 kilometres from east to west, and, as it passes through Aranda de Duero, gives rise to wines resounding with the essence of the region. They are generally very strongly coloured wines, with aromas recalling fresh fruit. The taste in the mouth is fleshy, with a very long finish, qualities obtained from a grape – tinta del país – which is perfectly adapted to the extreme climate of the area.

Where our land is
The Ferratus winery has gradually acquired or come to control some of the oldest vineyards in the county, the ones that are best adapted to the climate: a compendium of 15 hectares of excellent land in the municipalities of La Horra, Olmedillo de Roa, Sotillo de la Ribera, Quintana del Pidio and Gumiel de Izán. Old vineyards with more than 40 years' history of local tinta del país clones, capable of producing excellent wines with power, freshness and elegance, very difficult to compare with other neighbouring wines. Like the Ferratus winery building itself, some of our vineyards are surrounded by old pine woods, creating a natural barrier to prevent the area's dreaded spring frosts.
