Ferratus 2005

2005 HARVEST

One of the most powerful, concentrated vintages in the history of the winery. The grapes ripened in very cold winter and spring weather, which extended into a very dry summer. So, we picked very small, strongly coloured grapes, with a highly condensed fruit extract. Ferratus 2005 was aged for 12 months in French (90%) and American oak.

TASTING
Nice, very bright cherry colour, full of complexity, with woodland aromas, very fragrant black fruit and notes of liquorice, oriental spices and dark chocolate cream. On the palate it is perceived as powerful, but goes down pleasantly, with oily, rounded tannins.

DRINKING SUGGESTIONS
Wine ideal for ageing for a long time or for drinking accompanied by stews, semi-mature and fresh goats' cheeses, oily fish, grilled meat, pasta with meaty sauces, Arab-style spiced cuisine or game and wild mushroom dishes accompanied by red fruits. It can be served between 15 and 18 degrees, a temperature a little cooler than the surroundings.

2006 HARVEST

An unusual, very lively wine. The 2006 harvest has given rise to wines with an extraordinary maturity both in terms of fruit (skins and pips) and alcohol content, due to the high temperatures that occurred on dates near to picking. The wine was subjected to 15 months' ageing in French (90%) and American (10%) oak.

TASTING
Red wine with the expression of fresh fruit, notes of macerated cherries, and herby, balsamic aromas with a mineral background. The flavours go on with hints of tobacco and chocolate from the oak. In the mouth it shows power and personality, at the same time it feels silky and fresh in the mouth – an unusual combination.

DRINKING SUGGESTIONS
It is a wine that can be decanted before drinking. Its volume in the mouth and fresh sensations make it ideal for drinking with dishes like stuffed roast meats, fish with herbs, aromatised mature cheeses, foie or curries.
