FERRATUS 2009 Very intense and quite youthful by Jancis Robinson

Ferrán Centelles, collaborator of the prestigious Master of Wine, Jancis Robinson, has just published a superb analysis about Ribera del Duero’s vineyards and wines, after his recent trip to our region, where he tasted 150 wines. (April 2016).

Centelles said: “My average rating from the region was 15.7. This is relatively high for me and a good indicator of the potential and quality of Ribera del Duero today”.

About FERRATUS 2009, which received 16,5 points, he wrote:

Tempranillo sourced from different villages, averaging 60 years old vines. Hand-harvested, double-selected in winery and aged for 14 months in mainly French oak.

Very intense and still quite youthful, lots of fleshy dark fruit, toffee, toast, caramel and pungent spices. Balancing and vivid acidity. Full, rich and concentrated fruit on the mid palate. Well-delineated wine. Savoury and elegant. Convincing stuff. (FC)14% Drink 2015-2025”.

And about the year: 2009 can be considered a really top vintage in both quantity and quality. The grapes were exceptionally healthy and the wines are responding exceptionally well to ageing.
