Emmanuel Ivars has materialised Maria Luísa Cuevas’ dream for Ferratus AØ 2019, a wine with a more cosmopolitan and fashionable style that is tremendously attractive to the palate.

The tandem of the French oenologist and the Ribera del Duero winemaker and their total understanding in the production of Ferratus wines works like a charm and is resulting in the release of modern wines, very much to the taste of today’s consumer.

Ferratus AØ (read A-zero) 2019 is the result of this union of personalities. It is a 100% Tempranillo, the fruit of a vintage classified as “Excellent”, which developed without any incident during the whole cycle.

The grapes were harvested by hand and the wine underwent malolactic fermentation partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in oak barrels, after which it was aged for 12 months, perfectly combining the fresh sensations of fruit and wood.

Rich in colour, frank, appealing, with a great fruit component, Ferratus AØ 2019 pleases both lovers of young, fresh, lighter wines and those who like long-aged vintages.

Modern, contemporary, totally cool, it is one of those trend-setting wines.

Winemaker Emmanuel Ivars was born in the Loire Valley, where his parents, winemakers and winegrowers, settled after returning from Algeria in the 1960s. After studying in the Loire, Burgundy and Paris, he moved to Ribera del Duero where he works as an oenological consultant.

María Luisa Cuevas is an active businesswoman, winegrower and winemaker, who has fulfilled her dream of founding a winery that she leads in every way. Her overwhelming personality is reflected in the character of the wines she makes.

Both, oenologist and winemaker, agree in working with affection from the vineyard, looking for the typicality of the Tempranillo grape in Ribera del Duero.

TASTING NOTES

– Intense cherry red with violet tones, medium-high robe, clean and very bright.

– Harmonious and round nose, very well integrated. Aromas of big cherries, blueberries, pink pepper, cedar, tobacco and chocolate.

– In the mouth its tannin is soft, velvety, elegant, very agile and easy to drink. Totally balanced acidity. Perfect integration of the wood with a fruity sensation in the background. Medium-high aftertaste.

IDEAL PAIRINGS OR HARMONIES FOR FERRATUS AØ 2019

– Harmonious and with a velvety tannin, it is perfect on its own or as a meal.

– Ideal with vegetables: stews, fried or candied artichokes, onions, calçots with romescu sauce, soups or creams.

– Tasty soups and pulses, such as cocido madrileño, stewed lentils, peas with ham, pasta, rice dishes with vegetables. Jacket potatoes, sweet potatoes … potato omelette or Swiss rösti.

– Young animals: suckling lamb, kid, suckling pig, veal or veal either roasted or stewed. Tripe, barbecued ribs, tacos al pastor, cochinita pibil, hamburgers, (spicy or barbecue sauces). Stuffed pastries such as sirloin Wellintong and red fruit sauces.

– Fatty or rocky pink and/or salmon fish, chipotle, mushrooms and mushrooms, pâtés or puddings.

– 50% chocolate and sauces containing chocolate or cocoa such as mole poblano.

– Smoked sheep’s, goat’s or cow’s cheese: raclettes, fondues, malakoff (fried cheese fritters).
